A global producer and distributor of premium and luxury wines, with a strong presence in multiple countries around the world, approached us in the middle of their expansion for help with enterprise address validation.

    At a Glance

The company has a strong focus on premium and luxury wines, and has won numerous awards for its products. They also operate a number of vineyards and wineries around the world.

Based on their inquiries, they found us during a period of significant expansion for their business, having identified that enterprise address validation was a top priority, and we are honoured to have played a role in their growth.

    Wine, Liquor, and Other Luxuries

This client is one of the world’s largest wine companies and describes the organisation as an end-to-end global wine business. They have over 2,500 team members, three brand portfolio divisions, and 11,300 hectares of vineyards and winemaking facilities in the world.

In addition to its core wine business, the client also has a focus on sustainability. They have set a number of goals to reduce their environmental impact such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and water use.

    The Challenge

The client needed enterprise address validation software that could operate in Australia, the UK, and the US. With a global team, they required a solution that was easy for multiple departments to adopt—something adaptable, intuitive, and quickly accessible.

    The Process

In September 2018, this client reached out to us with a need for address, phone, and email validation. After a discussion with their contact, we presented two options:

    1. DataTools Express Capture: A straightforward solution ready for use within minutes, requiring no development. Its core function is automated address validation, though it does not cover phone or email.
    2. DataTools Kleber: Designed for businesses seeking deeper configuration and customisation. It offers an API that aggregates DataTools and third-party services to support international address verification, matching, and uplift within a single integration.

Following a demonstration in October, the client indicated they would implement Express Capture initially, with plans to move to Kleber in the future.

Later that month, a separate contact reached out regarding software for their ecommerce stores. A technical call confirmed their rollout strategy: start with Express Capture and Twins, followed by Kleber.

By November, they began replacing their legacy solution with DataTools Express Capture.

After reviewing a sample data file, we recommended using Twins for cleaning existing address data on an ad-hoc basis.

They proceeded to order the following services:

    1. DataTools Express Capture
    2. DataTools Kleber Trial
    3. DataTools Twins Data Quality Suite

In March 2019, their US-based team expressed interest in trialling Kleber. During a call, we uncovered that their core challenge related to uncleansed addresses. We pointed out additional fields within their Kleber workspace that provided detailed information on why specific addresses had not been cleansed and offered to run a batch repair on their failed records.

In May 2020, during the launch of a new UK ecommerce store, they contacted us with further questions, including:

    1. Can they separate out Australian vs. UK queries for reporting?
    2. Would endpoint URLs change when targeting UK databases?

We assured them that no new accounts were required and their existing Kleber setup would suffice for both regions.

We also covered best practices for using predictive logic in the UK and explained regional address entry behaviour—Australians often begin with a street number, while UK users typically start with a postcode.

Following this, we resolved a technical issue related to excessive temporary request keys, and explained correct usage methods for both UK and Australian formats.

Despite some adjustments to their usage plan due to changing demand, their feedback on DataTools Kleber remained consistent: “It just works.”

    The Impact

    Address Validation Beyond Borders

Luxury goods aren’t just products—they’re experiences. Ensuring each bottle of wine reaches its intended destination without delay or error is essential to preserving that experience. With operations across the globe, reliable enterprise address validation plays a critical role in their logistics.

Whether shipping from Barossa Valley, Napa, Tuscany, or Bordeaux, accurate delivery honours the expertise of the winemakers behind each label. Timely and error-free shipments also help reinforce customer trust.

    Consistent, Reliable, and Secure Service

When we asked about their experience with Kleber, their team said it best: “We never need to think about it. It always just works.”

Its ease of use, reliability, and low-maintenance design allow them to focus on high-touch areas of their business. Meanwhile, the platform’s flexibility ensures they only pay for what they use—scaling up or down based on demand.

With automated address validation at its core, DataTools Kleber continues to adapt to their evolving global needs. And by enabling seamless international address verification, it has become a foundational part of their data quality strategy.
